Description
Fans from the Royal House of Orange-Nassau
by Hélène Alexander and Fransje Hovinga-van Eijsden
Commemorating a special exhibition at The Fan Museum of a wonderful selection of fans belonging to the Royal House of the Netherlands. Each fan is a very personal object, having been made, gifted, carried and passed down from mother to daughter, for Queens Emma, Wilhelmina, Juliana, Beatrix and Princess Maxima. The fans in this royal collection comprise a variety of styles, but each reflects the taste of the lady who owned and enjoyed it. Indeed, two of the fans were painted by Queen Wilhelmina – herself a highly proficient artist – as gifts to her mother, Queen Emma.
