For visitors with mobility requirements, staff are on-hand to provide assistance with a portable folding ramp (measuring 153cm in length by 77cm wide). Please be advised that there is a single step from street level to the courtyard and three steps from the courtyard to the front door, in both instances the ramp is suitable for access.
Please note The Fan Museum has two manual wheelchairs which are available on request.
There is one flight of internal stairs with a handrail to the First Floor as well as steps at the rear of the building to access the Orangery. A lift, operated by keyholding staff, is in operation across all levels of The Fan Museum. At least one keyholding member of staff is always on duty. Please note that, for private functions, the Orangery is also directly accessible via this lift.
Guide dogs are welcome in the Museum, however, no pets are allowed in or around the buildings.
Please be advised that prams and pushchairs can be stored securely in our Reception Room but, due to limitations in exhibition spaces, can not be taken around the Museum.
Visitors with disabilities and their carers are entitled to free admission.
We offer complimentary audio guides to all visitors, which function across the ground floor exhibition spaces. Written and large text versions of the audio guide script with magnifying sheets are also available on request. Currently, these are offered in English though we aim to implement other language options in future.
The lighting levels are medium throughout the Museum, for conservation reasons, except where specified for events (such as Museum by Candlelight).
For those unable to get to the Museum, we offer a seasonal programme of digital events which are accessible from smartphones, computers, laptops and tablet devices. Our collection is also available to explore here.
The Fan Museum staff receive regular training in assisting those with access requirements, particularly in case of emergency. As we continue to make our Museum fully accessible to all, we welcome visitor feedback via telephone or email to the General Manager.
The interior of The Fan Museum is made up of our ground floor permanent display spaces – the Yellow Room, Green Room – the Museum Shop and the first floor Gallery, which hosts our temporary exhibitions.
Toilets are available inside for Museum visitors on the ground- and first- floors. Accessible toilet facilities can be found on the ground floor along with baby changing facilities.
Whilst The Fan Museum has storage space for coats and bags, our cloakroom capacity is very limited. Only handbags and small backpacks are allowed into the Museum. You may be asked to carry small backpacks by hand or to wear them on your front.
Lightweight, carbon fibre, folding stools are readily available to visitors throughout the Museum.
The Museum prefers to take cashless payments where possible.
